What does ‘UL approved’ mean for your fire shutters?

Hart UL approved shutters have undergone rigorous testing to ensure safety and performance standards are met. Read on to find out more about UL certification…

What is UL?

UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories, a third-party certification organisation founded in Chicago in 1894.

For over a century, UL has been testing products to ensure they meet industry-wide standards and are therefore safe to enter the market.

It has developed rigorous testing procedures for everything from electrical items we use in our homes, to industrial equipment used by international corporations.

Each year, around 14 billion UL approved products enter the global marketplace.

Why UL certification matters

Thanks to United Laboratories’ testing processes, the UL mark is synonymous with reliability, safety and compliance.

Therefore, UL approved products can offer consumers peace of mind, allowing them to use the product with confidence.

UL approval also benefits manufacturers by demonstrating their commitment to quality control and increasing trust in their products.

Adhering to UL standards can help lower liability risks if something goes wrong and, as they are recognised by many local and national building codes, they can also streamline approvals and regulations.

Hart UL approved fire shutters and doors

Our Firebrand range of fire shutters and doors have been tested, assessed, certified and monitored by UL to UL10b/NFPA80 with standard sizes up to 7.3m (24ft) width or height, with special UL certification options for extra large fire doors and shutters.

The UL10B testing process establishes rigorous criteria for evaluating the fire resistance of door assemblies.

Doors and shutters are subjected to extreme heat over 1000°F for up to 90 minutes, simulating real-life fire conditions.  The aim is to ensure the doors retain their structural integrity and prevent the spread of fire and smoke.

Our UL certified shutters are rated from 30 minutes to 240 minutes fire resistance.

Fire protection you can trust

Firebrand shutters are manufactured in the UK to the highest standard specifications, building regulations and insurance requirements.

In addition to UL approval, they are UKCA/CE approved for full standard conformity, whilst ISO 9001 certification ensures production and installation are completed to all relevant standards including health and safety during manufacture and installation.

Firebrand shutters and doors can be integrated into existing fire and security alarm systems, protecting people, products and your premises during a fire outbreak.
